Yoga for Athletes

This class is taught by:

Jesse Hughes

In her personal journey to find that place of inner stillness, Jesse returned again and again to her Yoga mat. That yearning for peace finally led her into teacher training. Now, she hopes to assist others in their journey and discovery of peace in mind, body, and spirit.

Jesse is passionate about making Yoga accessible to all levels, especially to athletes. She knows well the drive for performance, but has experienced the bliss of proper recovery, the nourishment provided by spending time on the mat. In a light-hearted, compassionate way, her teaching blends these energies.

"Undying, untouched by fire or the storms of life, there is a place inside where stillness and abiding peace reside. You can ride the breath to go there." Danna Faulds

Julia Smith

I began my career as a student athlete in high school and college. Running was my passion. I excelled in this sport and had a small yet dedicated coaching staff and great teammates and friends. Through the years, I have embraced and relished the freedom running has given me. Regardless of the amount of time I have been able to devote on a daily basis, I feel it has given me balance.

Working, parenting, maintaining my marriage and all of the other usual and incredible challenges that present themselves daily have been managed by giving myself this time to just breathe. Six years ago I added yoga and swimming to my routine to give myself variety and recovery from running. I found that both of these added another element of mental, spiritual and physical balance. I began practicing yoga at a yoga studio and signed up for Yoga Teacher Training.

Wow, “my eyes” were opened and my curiosity piqued. This, combined with a writing / drawing journal I began to keep daily generated more thought and appreciation for the beauty and opportunity laid out before me each day. A more peaceful presence has been the result. I have always enjoyed art and athletics and am cultivating a career transition over the next couple of years. Yoga and yogic philosophy…I feel compelled to share with others! What a wonderful effect it has had on my life and those close to me. I love being a student…there’s something new to discover daily by opening your heart. Healthy eating and cooking are daily indulgences as well and I am figuring out how I am going to fold this into my developing career. A holistic health coach is my aim and I am heading there each day.

Natalie Skubic

Natalie grew up in Louisiana and Florida and always loved being active! Her fiery extroverted nature always seemed to draw her to explore all types of physical activities. Natalie's yoga journey began in 2011 when she walked by a local yoga studio offering a 30 day yoga challenge (30 classes in 30 days). Never one to not take a challenge, she went for it! Through the newfound commitment, she found a passion and her soul felt at home. She was drawn to the flexibility and stability yoga offered along with the balance it was creating in her life. She fell in love with how the rhythm of the breath creates a magical dance between the mind and body. The changes that occurred in her life, both physical and mental left her wanting more and it gave her the desire to share yoga with others.

At the time, working in the corporate world, she found herself in a lot of demanding, time consuming roles that allowed great professional growth but left her soul unfulfilled and searching, which led Natalie to embark on a yogic journey for personal growth, through determination, vulnerability, and acceptance. After completing her RYT teacher training here at Infinity Yoga in 2016, she decided to leave the corporate world behind and teach and share yoga with others full time.

Natalie brings a spirited element to her classes and urges students to embody their deepest desires and to leave egos at the door. Her playful nature encourages students to face their fears and to go deep into what moves them.

Natalie also teachers pilates yoga fusion and was certified through our very own Meredith Hesse; she is a certified doula. When she is not teaching she loves hanging out with her husband, and her four boys.

"Yoga is not about touching your toes… it’s about what you learn on the way down."

Kate Mitchell

Seeking balance, Kate discovered yoga in the spring of 2015 after leaving her corporate sales job to pursue an idea she had of launching a mobile app for adding rainbows to photos. As a struggling entrepreneur, yoga brought her balance, peace, inspiration, creativity, new friends, sanity, and community.

Uncertain of whether becoming a yoga instructor was truly in her heart, she took her yoga journey deeper and completed her RYT 200 that Summer. Kate started teaching yoga in October 2015, she’s taught over 500 classes including beginner, hot and vinyasa, and teaching is now as much a part of practice as taking yoga.

Kate likes to create classes that inspire flowing movement, inner peace, and positive energy. She feels that yoga is a space for people to delve deeper into whatever personal journey they are on, to open blockages and find new light. She aims to help foster an environment for that in her studio classes.

Off the mat, Kate enjoys working on her app, her handsome dog Rocco, visiting friends and family in Cali and Florida, Trevor Hall Pandora, and fun outings with friends.
